Local groups run the evening: family music bands, Đường poetry readings, Chinese chess, traditional martial arts, tuồng opera, bài chòi singing games and folk song classes. The city tourism portal calls it Đêm phố cổ, a night in the old town as it was in the early 20th century.
In 2027 the nights fall on Thursday 21 January, Friday 19 February, Sunday 21 March and Tuesday 20 April.
The town's lantern festival is a different, bigger event, from 3 to 6 December 2026.
