How this list was made

This is not a directory. It is a starting point for someone who just arrived, so you do not eat badly for a fortnight while working the city out.

Two kinds of entry appear below. The ones marked as a personal pick are places we have been to and would send a friend to. The rest are real, open places worth knowing about, listed with their address so you can go and decide for yourself. We are not going to pretend to have eaten everywhere in Da Nang.

Nobody pays to be in this guide. No place here has given us money, a discount or a free meal to be listed. If that ever changes, it gets printed on this page.

Coffee you can actually work from

Da Nang runs on coffee and half the city works from a cafe. For a full day, the beans are not the point. What matters is power, wifi that holds, and somewhere you can sit for three hours without feeling rushed.

One thing to check that nobody mentions in reviews: whether the place has real air conditioning or is open to the street. In the hot months that decides whether you last an hour or a day.

Doing something with a weekend

This is the most useful list in the chapter and the one every other guide leaves out. Everybody writes about food.
