The museum opened in 1919 and marked 100 years in November 2019. It holds the largest collection of Cham sculpture, carved between the 7th and 15th centuries.
It also shows special exhibitions. In July 2026 it opened one on Cham culture in Lâm Đồng, with that province's museum.
