This is worth doing early. A local account means you can pay rent, bills and almost everything else by QR code, which is how the country actually runs, and it stops the ATM fees adding up.
It also means you can be paid locally and can use the ride and delivery apps without a foreign card being declined.
Take your passport and your visa. Requirements do move, so if one branch says no, another branch of the same bank is often worth trying.
