01

Act 1

Life

A new land begins with its first lives, and the first cries of newborns. It is where the story begins, and white ao dai take the audience back to Life.

02

Act 2

Wedding

The wedding of Princess Huyen Tran and King Che Man of Champa, from a famous story in Vietnam's history. It brings back the bright colours of a golden past, and the will of the people before us to build peace and good times for the nation.

A girl in a pale blue dress moves through the water in the Lamp and the Sea act of Hoi An Memories Show, with rows of women holding lanterns behind her

03

Act 3

Lamp And Sea

Hoi An's young men sail out to the wide sea and face the storms, for their country's future. What lights their way is the faithful love of the women of Hoi An, a warm light that never goes out at home.

04

Act 4

Integration

Traders from all over the world come to Hoi An. They bring not only goods but also the values of all humanity, and Hoi An becomes a busy port town with a culture of its own, made from many countries.

05

Act 5

Ao Dai

After good times and hard times, Hoi An today is still peaceful and poetic, as gentle as the ao dai of a Vietnamese girl. It is the fifth and last act of the show.

Performers in white ao dai and conical hats carry yellow lanterns past the old town houses on the Hoi An Memories Show stage, with the water in front

06

Told In Ao Dai

In their words, the ao dai is the main language of the show, used to tell the story of Hoi An 400 years ago. Their creative team's aim: "to tell Vietnam's stories through a universal artistic language".

A Stage In The River

The show plays on a stage of 25,000 square metres in the middle of the Hoai River, with around 500 performers. The first show was on 18 March 2018.

08

The Island

Hoi An Memories Land is on an island in the middle of the Hoai River. Its park rebuilds Faifo, the busy trading port of the 16th and 17th centuries. It has a Vietnamese village, a Japanese village and a Chinese village, and more than 20 small shows in the park in the evening, before the main show.

They call the place a bridge between Vietnam's heritage and travellers from everywhere.

The show tells 400 years of Hoi An in five chapters, from its birth to the golden days of Faifo, its trading port, and the ao dai is its main language. A girl who makes cloth by hand tells the story.

She is not a hero or someone famous: making cloth by hand is one of Hoi An's old crafts.

The company that developed Hoi An Memories Land says it all started with this show. Since then the island in the middle of the Hoai River has grown into a park, a resort and restaurants.
