Airtime Asia Takes Over Da Nang And Hoi An

Airtime Asia runs from Thursday August 13 to Sunday August 16, across Da Nang and Hoi An. The organisers describe it as the first independent, decentralised music festival in Asia, bringing together 77 artists and presenters from 18 countries, with more than 20 events over four days and nights.

What makes it unusual is who built it. Not one promoter, but community radio stations from across Asia, each one programming its own room. In their words: during the day, talks and workshops led by experts and cultural icons, beach-side record label showcases, coffee raves in local cafes, shared traditional meals and sonic encounters.

On Friday night they turn the centre of Da Nang's nightlife district into a walkable circuit of 10 nightclub pavilions, each one curated by a different community radio platform. On Saturday everyone moves to Hoi An for workshops, a locally sourced dinner and live music in the middle of the rice paddies, ending in one all-together party with the Vietnam debuts of two DJs from Japan and Korea. On Sunday it finishes at a riverside community arts centre built like a cave, with presentations, showcases, a northern style dinner and a farewell cocktail hour at sunset.

Tickets are at AirtimeAsia.com. Check their Instagram, @airtime.asia, for the room by room timetable before you pick a night.

Echoes Of My Son, One Night Only

On Friday August 15 there is an outdoor art programme at the My Son Sanctuary called Echoes of My Son, which recreates the historical journey and the spiritual life of the ancient Cham people.

My Son is about an hour and a half inland from Da Nang, so this is a day out rather than an evening plan. If you have only ever seen the Cham through glass at the museum in town, seeing it staged in the actual towers is a different thing entirely. Check the sanctuary's own opening hours before you drive, because the site normally closes in the late afternoon.

The Pickleball World Cup Is Coming Here

The Pickleball World Cup 2026 runs from August 30 to September 6 at the Tien Son Sports Arena and the Tuyen Son Sports Village.

It is worth knowing about now rather than the week it starts. Pickleball has gone from almost nothing to full courts in this city inside about two years, and a world cup landing here is the clearest sign of that. If you have never played, the sport is genuinely easy to start, and there are clubs around An Thuong where most people are rallying within their first session.

The Wet Season Is Starting

August is where Da Nang's dry summer begins to turn. On average the city gets around 297mm of rain across the month and something like 17 days with rain in them, and the region can be brushed by tropical storms at this time of year.

That is the long-run average, not a forecast for this week, so check an actual forecast on the day before you commit to a boat trip or a mountain drive. What it does mean in practice is that afternoons are less reliable than mornings from here on, and that indoor plans are worth having in your back pocket.
