Chupchip

The Place

Chupchip is on Duong 2 Thang 9 in Hoa Cuong Nam, and it is a cinnamon roll bakery rather than a cafe that happens to sell a few. The rolls are baked there, soft and wet in the middle, and the whole thing is about what goes on top. Cream cheese poured over warm so it runs down onto the plate. Cocoa dusted thick like a tiramisu. Lotus Biscoff. Walnuts. Or a scoop of ice cream sitting on the side. The other thing they are known for is salt coffee, salty and strong at the same time, and it is what their own Facebook page is named after. Egg coffee and orange espresso are on there too. The cold drinks come out with the glass rimmed in salt and chilli, a pandan leaf standing up out of it and a skewer of dried fruit across the top. There are two shops. The original is on Duong 2 Thang 9 in Hai Chau, on the city side of the river, and there is a second one on Do Ba in My An, which is the one most people reading this can walk to. Both open at six thirty in the morning and close at ten at night, every day, so it works for breakfast before work and for sitting outside in the evening.
